Getting started

Last year, when Ilze retired we went on a long driving vacation.  We covered 6,000 miles in 6 weeks driving and tent camping from Chicago to Portland north to Seattle and back to Chicago.  Ilze insisted that we document the trip using a blog, we did and had fun keeping up with the postings.

This year we are leaving late September and exploring the Southeastern USA driving from Chicago through Tennessee to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  There we will link to the Blue Ridge Parkway and depending on weather go to Cape Hatteras or turn south.  This should take about a month.  Ilze was fortunate to find a rental in Savannah Georgia for another month which allows us to explore Savannah to Jacksonville Florida.

We learned a couple of things from our last trip.  We're flatlanders, we need to be mindful of altitude and its effect on weather.  We tried to cover too much ground last year: stop and smell the roses.
