Crackerbox Palace

We reached the Smoky's. Our cabin shown in the top picture was reached driving up and down  rural roads and turning abruptly up a mountain.  The last part of the road was on a one lane gravel road that curved dramatically up and around causing the need to take deep breaths and reaffirming faith in our car's ability to do this.  There were waterfalls and beautiful bird sounds as we reached the cabin. The mornings were fogged in but cleared by midday. The nights were usually clear and the sky absolutely full of stars.

The Smoky's were nearby.  They were amazing as advertised.  The turning, twisting roads brought us to waterfalls and layered mountain vistas that made our jaws drop. We went from  mist into a beautiful blue sky with dramatic clouds.  This is the first trip we have taken in which we have had glorious weather day after day (after that first day in Tennessee).  We saw a small herd of elk as we walked along a river.  They stared at us as we stood 50 feet away.  They were beautiful.
